As volunteer educators, Extension Master Gardeners (EMGs) give a variety of gardening-related talks throughout the community. If your organization is seeking a speaker, please send a request through our speakers bureau.
Upcoming Talks
- EMGs provide free mini-seminars at Massanutten Country Corner (US-211 in Page County). They are held at 11 a.m. on the following Saturdays throughout the gardening season:
- September 28: Native Bees
- October 12: Putting the Garden to Bed & Composting
- October 26: Planning a Native Garden
- Tuesday Talks at Belle Grove Plantation, 336 Belle Grove Rd. Middletown
- Every Tuesday, March through October, 9:00 a.m.
- Learn about small fruit trees in the garden, pruning, early American garden history, dye plants, cutting flowers, historic medicinal herbs, culinary and aromatic herbs, native plants, year-long garden care, seed collecting, and more.
- Bring questions from your garden for a team of EMGs to research and answer.
- Northern Shenandoah Valley EMGs have partnered to provide educational classes through Shenandoah County Parks & Recreation in Fall 2024. The classes are free, but registration is required and limited to 25 people. Register through Shenandoah County Parks & Rec (under Educational Lectures).
- October 3, 5-6:30 p.m. (Adults and kids 8 and up): How to Save Seeds (and Money) from Your Garden
- October 8, 1-2:30 p.m.: Peonies-America’s Favorite Flower
- October 25, 2-3 p.m.: How to Create a Rain Garden
- Nature Explorers at Samuels Public Library, Animal Travels Around the World and How Plants Help, Saturday, November 16. There is no cost for the class, but registration is required.
- Wee Once in the Garden (3-5 year-olds): 11:00 -11:45 a.m.
- Green Thumbs (6-11 year-olds): 12:00 – 12:45 p.m.
