The Northern Shenandoah Valley Master Gardener Association will award up to six $1,000.00 Memorial Scholarships to 2020 graduating seniors in the counties of Clarke, Frederick, Page, Shenandoah, and Warren and the City of Winchester.
The goal of the Memorial Scholarships is to encourage students to focus on a horticultural-related field while attending college and to continue volunteering and supporting their communities. The hope is the Memorial Scholarships will help help create more leaders in our area of interest. The scholarships are a memorial to those active NSVMGA Extension Master Gardeners who died during their volunteer service to the VCE Master Gardener program. Memorial Scholarship eligibility is based on academic achievement, with a focus on coursework in agriculture, horticulture, and other related sciences. Additional eligibility criteria include student volunteerism and membership (related to agricultural or horticultural organizations, such as FFA or 4-H, but also including school, church, or community-based organizations), plans to attend a Viginia college or university (two or four-year program), as well as an interest in pursuing a career in agriculture or horticulture. Letters of recommendation and a letter outlining the student’s goals and reasons he or she deserves the scholarship are also required. See the application for additional requirements.
Information for 2020 coming soon. Download the application for more information and return it with all required documentation by March 31, 2019.
