NSVMGA Scholarships

MG logoThe Northern Shenandoah Valley Master Gardeners Association has established a scholarship for any high school senior graduating from an accredited high school or a home school program in the counties of Clarke, Warren, Shenandoah, Frederick and Page.

A $200 scholarship will be awarded to one senior in each area, who has been accepted to an accredited 2 year or 4 year college or university.

The scholarship is intended to acknowledge the superior efforts of students who have participated in community service and in the study areas of science, horticulture or agriculture.

The senior must have taken at least three courses in a science field, such as, biology, horticulture, environmental studies, earth sciences or similar related fields.  The student must have received a satisfactory grade in these courses.

A letter of recommendation from a member of the science faculty (or the community, if home schooled) must be submitted. A certified copy of the high school transcript must be included in the application packet.

The student must have volunteered time and service during their high school years to an volunteer organization such as the Virginia Cooperative Extension Service, 4-H, FFA or a community service organization providing help to the community.

A letter from the student’s supervisor in the organization must be submitted.  Included should be the total hours the student volunteered and a summary of the performance of the applicant.

The High School principal and the student awarded the scholarship will be notified no later than May 20, 2014.

College Scholarship

MG logoThe Northern Shenandoah Valley Master Gardeners Association has established a scholarship for any rising college junior that graduated from a high school in the Virginia counties of Clarke, Warren, Shenandoah, Frederick or Page, and has majored in a field of agriculture, horticulture, or related science field.

A $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to acknowledge the superior efforts of a student who has majored in one of these fields of study and has also participated in community service within the last 4 years.

Criteria for the scholarship are listed in the letter below for the student applicant.

The student awarded the scholarship will be notified no later than July 31, 2014 and the scholarship award will be sent to the school Treasurer for deposit into the student’s account.
